Malad). Spence attended school in Marsh Valley and
was a graduate of Marsh
Valley high School, class of 1964. His parents
owned and operated the
Downata Hot Springs resort in Downey, Idaho where he
worked as a young man.

Spence served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day
Saints in Kentucky, Tennesee and West Virginia. He
then attended Ricks College
for 2 years.
In December 15, 1967, he married Deborah Field and

for three years before making a career change which took
him into the
Funeral Profession. In 1978, he and Debbie
purchased the Benson Funeral
home from Raiford and Dana Benson. The following year,
they built the
Marsh Valley Funeral Home. He served on the Malad
City Council for 1 term
and then was elected as Malad's Mayor, an office he has
held for three
terms.
Spence has a great love for the people of Malad and Marsh
Valley.
He feels that our area offers the best of all worlds.
Wonderful area for
recreating, businesses who care about the service they
offer, schools
with outstanding teachers and facilities, a
lifestyle envied by all who
visit us, and most of all; people who really
make up a "family" of
friends and neighbors.
Debbie has taught school at the Malad elementary school for
several years and together they claim that "this is the
best place on earth".
